My name is Rik, I was born in a small village in Belgium, I am a descriptive linguist, and I am said to be a specialist on Bunun, an Austronesian language of Taiwan. I am currently an assistant professor at the Graduate Institute of Linguistics at National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan.
I did my PhD at the Research Centre for Linguistic Typology at La Trobe University in Melbourne. I have been a post-doctoral researcher at the same Centre, and afterwards at the Institute of Linguistics of the Academia Sinica in Taipei. From 2000 till 2003, I worked at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Law & IT at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium.
In these times of internet fraud and identity theft, it seemed unwise to post my full CV online, but if you need a copy, please feel free to contact me.
This website has been hand-coded in HTML5, CSS3, and a smattering of PHP using the open-source editors Bluefish and later Notepad++ (which you should download if you haven't already).
The only aspects of the site not designed by myself are the fonts. The main text is in Rosario, a web font designed by Héctor Gatti. The title font is League Spartan, designed by the formidable League of Moveable Type.
